Focusing on eyes of two or more birds in a frame

I have recently subscribed your all in one pack and currently continuing my learning journey.
I am trying to capture birds in field using my Nikon gears – D500 and Nikon 200-500 AFS. I have seen in most of the cases when I’m photographing birds which are stationary, I’m only able to focus eyes of a single bird in a frame even though the second and third ones are sitting very near to them. Is there any way to keep eyes of all 2 or 3 of them in focus and blur the background? I am using 9 focus points (or sometimes group focus) with AFC but it’s not working for me in this case.

The way the focusing works is that you can only focus at one single point in the frame, even though you may be using 9pt AF or grp.
To achieve what you are trying to accomplish, you need to understand depth of field (have a separate course on that). Then you can focus on the eye of any one bird and using the concept of depth of field get the other birds also in focus.
