I am Canon user since last 13 years have entry level 350D with 75-300mm.. though I stretched it long for wildlife as well..I waited long to get into position to invest in hobby and now I am updating gears and was fully convinced with R7 with RF 100-500 and not studied much about sony but as now sony is booming like anything into this field it confused me lot, as I am about to buy in next month so before finalising I jus feel that it should be never regret decision.. so needed guidance..

The Sony 200-600 is much more versatile compared to the 100-500 and one of the key reasons is the internal zoom. Especially if you want to do some videos as well, that’s a perfect lens. I would suggest to go for the Sony 200-600 and a suitable body.

Thank u so much for valuable reply.. true about it’s versatility but about ergonomics I was struggling with handled ofcourse i just used once for trial..RF 100-500 sounds pretty handy and compact to me.. but about videos I am still confused.. how 200-600 is better?

In case of 100-500 or any other zoom lens, when you zoom in or out the Lens barrel physically moves which will introduce shake in video. But in case of 200-600 it’s internal zoom and does not introduce any shake and very easy and smooth to operate. In fact the 200-600 is one of the most preferred wildlife documentary lens by a lot of professional film makers.

That said, even if you go for the 100-500 and R7, it is still a great combination. There’s no need to regret it 🙂
