  • Choosing between sony or sigma lens for wildlife

Hi sir, I’m an amateur wildlife photographer shooting with a basic camera, a7rii. I’m looking forward to buy a lens for wildlife photography. I’m so confused to choose between sony 200 600 or sigma or tamron 150 600. I’m also looking forward to update my camera body to a9 in the future. Should I invest on sony since other brands are much cheaper? If sony is worth the price, I’m willing to pay for it though. Please give me your advice. Thank you

I always prefer the manufacturer’s lens rather than a third-party lens. It has certain advantages technically. The compatibility with firmware updates is easy to handle. Sony 200-600 is a superb lens; I have used it (not mine, but from my friend). It is awesome. The Tamron 150-600 is good also (again, I used my friend’s gear). However, it suffers from chromatic aberration.
As you plan to update your body to A9, I recommend Sony Lens, which is not too expensive. However, the budget is yours. So you may want to save some money with Tamron. But the difference between them is not too much. Either way, you can capture great shots. Good luck.

I recently moved from another brand to Sony. I was using Tamron 150 600 g2. Still own it… Had been using the combo for a good 4 years now.

If you are looking to upgrade in Sony, better to buy Sony 200 600. I own it along with a Sony A7 iv and i find it really good.

The autofocus is accurate and fast. The images, very good.

Tamron- I used and liked it a lot. Now giving me problems. I unfortunately gave it to Tamron for cleaning and they messed it up completely.

The lens is sharp and autofocus is good. Chromatic aberration was something noticeable in harsh light but could be corrected in PP.

However, if you are looking for a lens for your Sony, go with Sony. I find it more reliable.

For third party lens it also depends on the copy you get. Some are great and some are ok…

    Hope this helps!
