Looking for a lens
Posted by Ashmita Malhotra on May 21, 2023 at 10:20 amEarlier I had 700D Canon with 55-250 mm lens and it was on the verge of giving up hence recently purchased an R8 Cannon. Now I am looking for a good lens (atleast 600 mm) but i do have budget restrictions of max ₹1,50,000. Which one would be recommended?

I’m not sure about Canon lenses but Tamron or Sigma 150-600 would fall within your budget

I owned the Tamron 150 600 G2 lens and i found it to be very good. This was with a Nikon body though. The overall review of Tamron 150 600 G2 is positive

R8 is a mirrorless camera. Sigma or Tamron (both are good as per your budget), but they are built for Canon EF mount. So, you also need an EF to RF adapter.

The third party lenses (Tamron or Sigma), though very good & economical, said to have some issues with the auto focusing system of Canon R Series Cameras. So ensure good compatibility before purchasing.

and how to do that? as far as i know they dont allow testing

Then, you may do a good research online for extensive reviews on these lenses & their performance with Canon R8 by pro wildlife photographers. You can also consider Canon RF lenses like RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM (though quite expensive) or RF 100-400mm f5.6-8 IS USM (quite economical but slow & usable in good light only) and may use them with canon Extenders 1.4 or 2 to achieve the desired telephoto range.

Cannon lenses are far beyond my reach. I am not happy with the range of a 400mm lens at all.
