Hi. I am looking to buy a new mid range camera but highly confused due to the number of choices available. I have used the Canon 550D for a fair bit and had rented the 77D on my latest wildlife trip. Going forward I will be using the camera majorly for wildlife and landscape photography. Unable to decide between DSLR (phasing out technology) and a mirrorless (new technology).

Also, is it a good idea to purchase a second hand, lightly used camera or invest in a new one?

Any suggestions/ recommendations would be highly helpful.

I suggest you go for a mirrorless. There are many options among full frame and APSC among Canon, Sony and Nikon. I can be more helpful if I know your approximate budget with a range.

Thank you so much. I personally prefer a Canon since I have been using it for a while so pretty comfortable with the interface, though I am open to options. I was looking at something around 1.5 to 2L including a 400/600mm lens.

@Rachna, the budget is very tight, considering the camera and lens. The full-frame mirrorless starts from 1.5 only. And 400/600 prime lens starts from 10L+. If I assume you are looking for a zoom lens. Then Canon 100-400 5.6-8 is cheaper (within 60K). Then you can go for R8 (full frame) or R7 (APSC) within 1.5L. R10 is again another cheaper option (1.1L). With these combos, you may be able to manage under 2L. You may do some R&D on the internet about these. Connect for any further help.

Thank you so much. And yes I meant a zoom lens upto 400/600 since prime ones are super expensive. But your suggestions really help narrow down the research. I shall definitely check out the R series and will get in touch if I need any further inputs. Once again, thanks a ton. Your help is highly appreciated.
