In the quiet darkness of a night safari at Bhigwan, this ground-dwelling bird , the Indian night jar ,became less a subject and more a moment of revelation. To photograph it, I had to lie flat on the earth — lowering myself into its world, into its level, into its silence.

This image was taken at a tulip farm near the end of the tulip season. I observed a few sparrows hopping among the flowers, and this particular sparrow decided to perch and pose beautifully on a deheaded tulip.

Saw this Lioness in our evening Safari on the first day in Masai Mara. The lionesses were on a hunt and I saw this individual flanking and taking a different position. The eyes still locked on the target.
