R8 is a mirrorless camera. Sigma or Tamron (both are good as per your budget), but they are built for Canon EF mount. So, you also need an EF to RF adapter.

70-200/2.8 is always an excellent lens for its variability and sharpness. If you are seriously into wildlife, 200-500 will give you the range. It is a difficult choice. Ultimately you will need both. You can choose, considering your budget. I will probably go with 200-500 first (as I did the same, but I am with Canon).

I always prefer the manufacturer’s lens rather than a third-party lens. It has certain advantages technically. The compatibility with firmware updates is easy to handle. Sony 200-600 is a superb lens; I have used it (not mine, but from my friend). It is awesome. The Tamron 150-600 is good also (again, I used my friend’s gear). However, it suffers from chromatic aberration.
As you plan to update your body to A9, I recommend Sony Lens, which is not too expensive. However, the budget is yours. So you may want to save some money with Tamron. But the difference between them is not too much. Either way, you can capture great shots. Good luck.

I think you should go for RF100-500 (~2.3-2.4L); check the price with dealers. It will be an excellent combo. I use the same lens with R6. I am very happy with the same.

I don’t know about other pro-photographers or hobbyists like me. However, one ethical standard we should maintain while doing wildlife photography. The baseline is no-flash for me. The catchlight at the eye gives life to the photo. However, if you position yourself, this can be achieved even by playing with natural light and proper angles. I think many pros practice this also.

Thanks, Vivekji. I appreciate your method. Yes, it’s practical. I need to make an extra glass for photography only with some modifications.
