Sharing a favorite image of mine from Ranthambhore this summer. I saw the monkey on tree, eating but the baby was hiding under. I waited to see if baby will pop the head out and it did and to my joy, did it upside down. It was only for a couple seconds but being ready helped.

Nikon Z8 with 500pf lens @ f5.6

ISO 1100, 1/640, handheld.

It’s good shot, and well done for going vertical on this. I like how you show a slice with all layers.

Couple of things I can advice- Don’t go beyond f11 since lenses start losing sharpness due to diffraction. Also,since you were in a tripod, you could have lowered SS and reduced ISO further.

Lastly, including a bit more of sky will add more…

Creative edit of the mighty “Rana” from Jhalana Leopard Reserve. He was badly wounded in a territorial fight as seen. I chose to edit it in a dramatic way to bring out his warrior personality and attitude even after the injuries.

Since you are capturing a flying helicopter, go for a slower shutter speed that shows the motion of the blades. Here it seems it’s hanging in the air.

Beautiful image. I think adding a radial filter and increasing exposure around the eye and face of the bird will help distinguish it better from the background and take the attention towards the face.

Couple of things in my opinion to make this a better image- When composing, leave space in front of the subject. If they are flying then anticipate the direction and leave room in front. Here you have more room at the back.

Second, blown highlights should be taken care of by correctly setting metering and exposure parameters.

Sanjeev, thank you so much for your kind words. We stayed with the tiger for half an hour or so and it sometimes looked at us and then looked elsewhere, so I had to time it while he was looking at us. He wasn’t disturbed at all but was chilling. Standing on the gypsy seat I was able to capture the full head as well, but I liked this one better…

Yes, it’s always a personal choice. To me, it’s natural environment but it competes for attention and hence I would remove it. Moreover I feel it brings out the kingsly demeanor of the vulture when it’s in open air and not cramped. But those are just my thoughts 🙂

Yes, maybe a vertical frame might be better, or else keep the branch on right but reduce the highlights and whites in it so that its not that prominent.

Overall good image. Please check the paw of the leopard. It seems overexposed and might not be entirely recoverable. Try reducing whites and highlights there.

When I look at the eye or face of the subject, its not that sharp. Either your focusing point was somewhere else or it didn’t lock focus before clicking.

Both the birds are tilted to the right. You can also see the ripples in water are not parallel to the frame. Little straightening will help.

At that zoom, even a higher f stop number wouldn’t have worked to get all birds in focus. Going with a wider focal length would be a better option, or else focus on individual birds from the group.

I live in Minnesota, so can totally relate to the cold part. That’s why I am content to do my outdoor shooting in summer😄

For the picture, I think with f11 and the goose in background it is distracting. A shot of that one flapping wings would have been more interesting.
