crop sensor vs TC
Hi,
I am bit in dilemma if using crop sensor would be better than using any TC, my 100-400mm with crop sensor at 400 mm at DX crop mode (1.5x) or shall I go with a TC 1.4x, I am trying to get some close up of small birds
Camera: Nikon Z8
your insight would help me a lot

Avoid using the crop sensor. As you end up cropping the image for close-up and not get actual magnification. You need to study the MTF chart of the 100-400 lens and see how sharp it is and if it can take a TC and still give you sharp results.
