Exposure compensation

i have this fundamental doubt….is it true that exposure compensation cannot be used in manual mode & can only be used in auto or other priority modes?

Not exactly..the exposure compensation dial cannot be used in complete manual exposure, but you will see the indication of exposure and you need to adjust any of the ISO, Aperture or shutter speed to over expose or under expose.
