  • Suggestion for good camera/lens under 2L for portrait and travel

Posted by Asish Madhu on March 10, 2024 at 12:11 pm

I have been researching the right camera/lens combination for the past 3 months for my personal use, and I learned, there is no perfect camera. I have to adjust something when I gain something for a camera, while lens options are growing wide.

    Below is my requirement

    1. I need to capture portraits of friends and family. While taking a photo of a person, the picture should capture the emotion coming out from the eyes/face of the person.

    2. There should be good subject separation, sharpness and beautiful bokeh.

    3. It should be travel friendly and easily accessible.

    4. I should not worry about changing cameras for the next 5-10 years in terms of technology or features.

    5. Camera should be durable with good weather sealing, sturdy and lightweight.

    6. Camera should have good video features along with photo.

    7. After my initial purchase of a lens, I will be gradually adding/exchanging lenses to this camera over the period of years.

My overall budget is 2L INR

I have shortlisted the camera/lens combination. I need your expert advice on selecting the best one according to my needs above. If any other model you suggest, I am open to it.

    1. Canon R8 with 85mm f2

    2. Canon R6m2 with 50mm f1.8 (crosses 2L)

    3. Fujifilm Xs20 with Viltrox 75mm f1.2
    4. Sony a7c2 with Sony 50mm f1.8

Out of this my first preference is Canon R8, even considering the battery draining issues and missing IBIS, I see it give me more value and the amount saved can be invested in lens

I am also open to used cameras/lenses. But I do not know any reliable source where I can select one.

    Let me know your thoughts.
