  • Time to switch to Sony ? Due to Lack of Lenses options & RF being Overpriced!

    Hello Friends,

    Need your advise..

I am a Canon user since ages – current Body is R5 and R – (astro-modified). I mainly do Landscape & Nighscape photography and recently started doing wildlife photography. I currently have Tamron 150-600 G2 paired with on R5. I have noticed that fast action – Birds in fligh or Osprey photography – my keeper rate is hardly 15-20%. R5 is an amazing camera but to use its full potential (focusing) need to use native Canon Lenses. I feel RF lenses are overpriced and canon does not allow 3rd party lenses at this point in time. So I am thinking of moving to Sony A7RV and getting Sony FE 200-600 ?

It would be great to know your thoughts , and hear from anyone who feels the same or has done the switch from Canon -> Sony

    Thanks

    Shoeb

You can buy Canon RF 100-500. It’s an amazing fast lens with unbelievable sharpness. Though it is costly but worth for money.

Yes ! I was really tempted to get that but if we use 1.4x or 2x extender the lenses can only be used at 300mm+ and aperture drops to F11 .

You very rarely need that converter because it has extreme sharpness in comparison to other company lenses.

If you are using R5, you can surely try RF100-500. I am sure you will not regret it. Sony and Canon are good brands and are in tough competition. High-end Sony bodies and lenses also pinch pocket a lot. If I were in your position, I would not sacrifice R5 to shift to SONY.

Yes, you are very right. R5 is a very good camera in comparison to all other brands available in the market.

        As an R6 user, I agree 100%.

The RF system is a great system. Make the investment and stay with Canon would be my take.

If you have still not purchased, go with SOny 200-600 and the A7R5. It’s a killer combination for birds and wildlife photography and no other combination comes close to it for similar budget. I used it recently during my Panna and Bandhavgarh tour and you will not regret the investment.

      Hi Sudhir ji,

I have not ordered Rf100-500 yet. I will check the sony option.

      Thanks for your input.
