I would define myself as a casual hobbyist photographer than a professional or artistic grade. I usually do family portraits, landscape and shoot bees and birds. Since I live in city, I sometimes do street photography and architecture as well.

Existing gear setup: Based on my wider interest I bought tamron 50-400 for my sony a7iii included kit lens 28-70mm.

Issue: Now im struggling with low light, wide and overall sharpness image for the focal length relative to 28-70 f3.5/5.6.

I have shortlisted 2 lens which I wanted to replace with kit lens:

    1. Sony 20 mm f1.8
    2. Tamron 20-40 f2.8

Can 20 mm or 20-40 be replaced with kit lens and can be used for all purpose up to 50mm ?

if any other lens you like to propose then it will be highly appreciate.

Noted that the sony 24-70 mm gm is the expensive one, hence I didn’t consider that as an option.

I understand the Sony 24-70 f/2 lens is expensive. But have you considered the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G?

I’ve researched that sony 20-70 f/4 lens, but I understand its slower aperture limits low-light and casual astrophotography. So, I shortlisted the Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 for its low-light and G Master quality. However, it’s not wide enough (20mm), and I don’t want to buy a separate wide-angle prime 16mm or 20mm just for astro. This leads me to the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 as a cheaper, better low-light option. My shortlisting are based solely on online reviews since I haven’t handled any of these lenses. I need one versatile, wide-angle zoom lens for low-light street , landscape, casual astrophotography, and to upgrade from my kit lens. Can you help me decide?
