Looks like your subject to lense distance was the factor in this case. With close subject and long focal length ,at f5.6 the depth of field would be only sufficient for only one bird in whose eye the focus point was present. I see top birds eye is in focus and it seems on different plane than other birds. One of the video in Sudhir sir’s course demonstrates this depth of field concept with parameters like f number, subject to lense distance and subject to background distance. E.g. at 750mm focal length, with f5.6 with subject around 45 feet, depth of field is only around 4 inches!

For low key image, one of the most important requirements is light falling on the subject and very less lighting falling on background. So when you under expose by stop or two, back ground becomes totally dark. It is possible for any focal lengths as long as lightening conditions, metering and exposure compensation are properly dialed in.

Thank you Pradeep. I never faced any issue on Delhi airport and Mumbai airport in past. But recently only I was stopped and it seemed like unusual trouble for just small couple of lenses which were more than 3 years old!

At least in mirrorless camera I noticed, metering is tied up with autofocusing point. So if u move autofocus point then metering will also shift according to that point. I use Canon R6

I believe in Manual mode, you can’t dial exposure compensation.

Exposure compensation can be dialed in only Aperture or Shutterspeed priority.

In manual mode of you want to underexposed or over expose, then you have to change ISO/Shutterspeed or Aperture manually.

Hope my understanding is accurate 🙂
