Before switching systems or getting a body. Look as the Lenses line up or rent the combo that you want, before buying. As Sudhir Sir has mentioned. 20% on Body and 80% on Lenses. I have Canon R and Canon R5, but the RF Prime Lenses are too expensive, yes we can use old EF lenses though.

Nikon has one of the best wildlife lenses lineup . Just wait for Nikon Z6III, it should be launched soon and also checkout the Sony line up.

If you want to go for the Canon Route, go for Canon R rather then RP. RP has got smaller batteries and menu system is completely different then other Canon Camera. Canon has got few mid-low end camera’s Canon R8/R10 and Crop Sensor R7 but their lenses line up is not that great.. as this point in time.

    Hope this help.

    Thanks

Z8 is better at this point in time also Nikon has got very good lineup of wildlife lenses .

I have R5 + Rf 100-500 it’s a good but not great in low light . I am heavily invested in Canon, so it’s not easy for me to move to Nikon for me but I would recommend Nikon.

Having said that – R5 is a good all round camera and is due to renewal soon but RF lenses are very expensive. Heard that 3rd party lenses like Sigma is going to release RF lenses .

Hi Bro, It depends how much you have invested in the Sony System. Nikon Z8 & Z9 are amazing and current Nikon Lenses for wildlife are very good and affordable. But again not sure how much lenses or body you have for Sony system .

I am with Canon and I want to move to Nikon system but I have heavily invested in Canon system- multiple canon body + heaps of lenses Ef +RF , for that reason I cannot afford to switch from Canon .

So please think about it before you decide to move systems.

    Thanks

Z8 is very good option , it’s has got very good AF + animal tracking for wildlife . Yes , Z8 battery life sucks in comparison with Z9 . Z9 is too bulky obviously has got slight advantage on Z8 but I would get Z8 and invest in lenses more . Get 180-600 and then invest in New 600 & 800 PF lenses .

I am a canon users (R5 + R) but if you’re starting new and not invested in a system . Go with Nikon or Sony . Rf mounts are too expensive and also no third party lenses at this point in time . Z8 is a amazing option.

Both lenses are gold but issue is low light performance . F11 is not a desirable f-stop for wildlife specifically during dawn or dusk when the animals are most active .

Yes , these lenses are good in goos lighting conditions.

I was in the same situation and went for Rf 100-500, very sharp lenses but not good for low light situations.

I am thinking for buying used Ef 400mm f2.8 + ext as I cannot afford to invest in Rf600 f4 as this point in time .

    Thanks

If the background is too busy/ distraction – like bushes very near to subject – R5 has focusing issue. R5 focuses/ tracks subject very well if the background is far away from the bird .

Hope I was able to explain properly.

Hi Bro , Z8 is one of the best camera right now and Nikon has so many good lenses options for wildlife at this point in time . It important to invest in right system and you have done the right thing to invest in Nikon.

    All the best

  • Hi Sudhir ji,

I have not ordered Rf100-500 yet. I will check the sony option.

    Thanks for your input.

  • Thanks a lot

  • Thanks for your opinion. I agree with you. I think I will get Rf100-500 soon. Thanks a lot

  • Yes ! I was really tempted to get that but if we use 1.4x or 2x extender the lenses can only be used at 300mm+ and aperture drops to F11 .
